Chaya Czernowin’s Lovesong in US Premiere with Red Light New Music
On October 3, the Red Light New Music Ensemble performed the US premiere of Lovesong by Chaya Czernowin, a work originally written for ensemble recherché in 2010. Lovesong is a “virtuoso ensemble piece”, writes Czernowin:
In Lovesong, there is music which follows the gesture of imaginary hands as they touch an instrument, there is the song, the love song, created by the hands touching the instrument, and there is the shimmer and resonance, vital resonance, which grows. The overall flow tries to reflect on the strange energy and flow of time when falling in love.
Following Red Light New Music’s performance of this work at NYC’s Symphony Space, the Chicago-based Ensemble Dal Niente performs the work on October 20 at Nicholas Concert Hall in Evanston, IL.
