Hindemiths Last Opus

Hindemith: Messe

Paul Hindemith: Messe

- Sheet Music for choir -

Shortly before Paul Hindemiths death in December 1963, the Piaristenpfarre in Vienna saw the premiere of his 'Messe' for mixed choir. In this church, famous for religious music, Hindemith himself directed the choir.

As one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, Hindemith displayed his strengths with the 'Messe' and follows the Ordinarium (Ordo missae) of the holy mass. The four-part choir is particularly effective as it is the sole medium for Hindemiths music. The 'Messe' is a rewarding endeavor which perhaps, does not have as much recognition as it should have.
