Schott composers on focus at the Canberra Music Festival
On 11th May 2012, the 8th Canberra International Music Festival opens with the promise of over 30 concerts featuring music by composers from around the world in a range of venues of cultural and architectural importance. The festival will run from 11th to 20th May.
Three Schott composers will be represented at the festival, Peteris Vasks (pictured), Jean Françaix and Rodion Shchedrin. Vasks will be the festival's chosen composer in residence and there will be several Australian premieres of his works in addition to a portrait concert on 19th May.
To mark Jean Françaix centenary year, a special concert titled “From Paris with Love” will feature the national premiere of Mozart-New Look.
Rodion Shchedrin’s The Sealed Angel, one of his most important works, will also receive its first Australian performance during the festival. This sensational work is available on CD from on the Wergo record label.
