schott aktuell - the journal 4/2012 online
This summer’s festival season proves to be no exception. At the Salzburg Festival, Heinz Holliger conducts the World Première of his Janus Double Concerto for violin, viola and small orchestra, featuring Thomas Zehetmair, Ruth Killius and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s revolutionary Die Soldaten, deservedly dubbed an ‘opera of the century’, also bows in Salzburg in a new co-production with Milan’s Teatro alla Scala directed by Alvis Hermanis and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher.
Back in the US, György Ligeti, Bernard Rands, George Gershwin, Andrew Norman, Sir Michael Tippett (whose landmark A Child of Our Time is performed at the Oregon Bach Festival), Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Paul Hindemith and Kurt Weill are just a few of the many Schott composers whose music will be heard at festivals from coast to coast. Join us in a toast to summer!
