World Première: Largo Siciliano by Alexander at Cheltenham
On Occasion of Alexander Goehr´s 80th birthday in 2012, the Cheltenham Music Festival is presenting the world première of his new horn trio Largo Siciliano. On 5 July, is will be performed by members of the Nash Ensemble Marianne Thorsen (violin), Richard Watkins (horn) and Ian Brown (piano) at Pitville Pump Room.
Long time supporters of Alexander Goehr, the Nash Ensemble, have commissioned this horn trio with the Cheltenham Festival. As in "...kein Gedanke, nur ruhiger Schlaf", Goehr has once again returned to the music of Messiaen for his starting point.
