After the start – what remains to be done? Two examples: MOVE.ON in Linz and MOVING THEATRE in Osnabrück with round-table discussion afterwards

Das Orchester 09/2006, Page 22
The article summarises the round-table discussion following a talk by Albert Landertinger on the music education programme of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. While initially uncoordinated and dependent on few, individual enthusiasts, music academies began to offer courses for music educators about five years ago. Attracting little attention at first, they are now very popular, attended by musicians of many regional and national ensembles. At the same time, the willingness of ensembles to support individual members in education work has grown considerably. Even so, it is emphasised that education programmes must only complement, not replace music lessons in schools, so a clear definition is required which specific qualities professional musicians can add to standard school teaching. Close communication with schools and teachers is therefore considered as crucial. Apart from school children, more programmes were also called for to reach other neglected audiences.
