Except for his famous "Menuet", Boccherini and his work have largely been overshadowed by his contemporaries Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven and the far greater attention paid to the "Viennese Classics" by music historians. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death, Corvin pleads for a reassessment of Boccherini's work, showing him to be a pioneer in some respects and a link between the Italian opera and the German symphony.
