The perfect music as an accompanying soundtrack for all types of melancholy scenes. Passion and a longing for the distant Europe are the effects expressed in the Irish melodies of this movement which was written in American exile in 1944 by the film music composer Wolfgang Korngold. It is almost possible to feel the wet Irish grass under one’s feet, the rain in one’s face and the salty tang of the sea. A longing for his homeland could be the reason for Korngold’s choice of a stylised folk song for the third movement of his String Quartet No. 3.
