| Description: |
A 'Play with tones' – the colourful music of Paul Hindemith's 'Ludus tonalis' that practically illustrates his theoretical writing 'The Craft of Musical Composition' is one of the most significant works of 20th-century piano literature. Created in 1942 during his American exile, the composition fascinates with its variedness: Eleven interludes between twelve fugues in totally free style, now chordally, then aria-like, now intimately, then virtuoso. Their joy of playing restores the balance to the strictness of the fugues. Hindemith's most demanding and most comprehensive composition is available from Schott in a wonderful facsimile edition with the composer's own colour illustrations (ED 8200).
