With ‘Nightflight’, the Nighthawks prepare for another flight through the brightly lit night sky. Or do you think of a walk through dimly lit subway shafts at night, after a few drinks too many, when you hear this music?
There are of course two old hands behind the nocturnal name: Producer and bassist Dal Martino and trumpet player Reiner Winterschladen are both much sought-after musicians in the European jazz and pop scene, and for quite a long time have also been members of the equally successful dance-floor project Trance Groove. As ‘Nighthawks’, they are recognized specialists in cool grooves and atmospheric samples above which the clear voice of a solitary trumpet intones tales from the city – now keenly articulated, then longingly whispered.
